Best New Bands of 2010 Hummingbird Award: #7 Efterklang

20 Dec

Hey Efterklang...Hummingbird Award just look up

Best New Bands of 2010 Hummingbird Award: #7 Efterklang

Efterklang isn’t new, actually these Danish boys have been making music for some time. But it’s us stubborn Americans who choose to ignore anything not from Brooklyn or Silverlake. I’ve spent the better part of 2010, talking about bands from everywhere, not ignoring the 50 states, but exposing you to music all over the world. Crystal Fighters are Basque, Tame Impala is from Perth, but two regions have dominated the music scene this year, Canada and The Nordics.

Efterklang is upbeat, pianos, horns, strings and just great 80’s modern rock with a twist. It’s hard for me to believe that these guys aren’t from Canada, but they’re not…The Danes rule today and we love them a TON!

Vitals:
Band Members: Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen, Thomas Husmer & Rasmus Stolberg, Rune Mølgaard has also been a member for many years, but he has taken a more secluded role the recent years.
Hometown: Copenhagen, Denmark
Sonic Soulmates: Stars, The Dears, Broken Social Scene (Must be obsessed with Canada Rock)
Tracks of the Year:
“Modern Drift” – Quite possibly the best song of the year. It’s mind blowing how good this song is!

Band of the Day (10.19.10) VETO

Band of the Day (10.19.10) VETO

So thank God for our kick ass music excavators. Arizona Turk has been on a roll lately, introducing the fans to incredible new music. Our newest family member Bristian, Nordics King, blew up my Inbox with some pretty amazing stuff as well.

Today’s BOD, VETO bring electro-dance, rage rock direct from Copenhagen. The music is aggressive, but the vocals and lyrics have a Kasabian flare. Their breaks set-up the dance floor for Kasabian style choruses. Their music is tightly programmed but not overproduced like Perfect Circle or many many others. Their a cleaner, quicker version of Bloc Party with a mix of Dismemberment Plan. Their down-temp tracks are very Depeche Mode in styling. This perfect combination shows that electronic music is truly the world’s music. If you didn’t know, you would have guessed that the boys of Veto were from Brooklyn. VETO has a gigantic Danish and European following after two consecutive years of touring. They’ve yet to break-through in the US. Again, it’s time for the international NBDers to make VETO big! Take a ride with these tracks and let us know your thoughts.
